My Background

When I started my social work education 30 years ago, I wasn’t planning to become a therapist. I was drawn to social work because I wanted to create change on a larger scale—advocating for more equitable systems, developing programs, and helping build thriving communities.

Over time, my career took me into community nonprofits, schools, integrated healthcare, developmental pediatrics, psychiatric care, and eventually private practice. Along the way I worked with children, teens, adults, parents, couples, families and communities from many different backgrounds. Those experiences reinforced something I still believe today: There are good reasons people become who they become, and I love helping them understand those reasons with curiosity instead of judgment.

Mid-career and mid-life, and, after years of trying to understand why so many parts of my life (school, work, parenting, relationships) felt so much harder for me than they seemed to for “everyone” else, I discovered my neurodivergent identity on my own. Through books, observation, and the experiences of family members who were diagnosed or identified as children, I discovered the neurodiversity paradigm and neurodiversity-affirming social/emotional frameworks that differed from the medical models of disability I learned about in school and in the workplace. This fundamentally changed the way I understood myself, and it helped me recognize how many people, like me, have spent years feeling misunderstood, misdiagnosed, or convinced they were somehow “too much,” “not enough,” or simply broken.

That realization changed the direction of my career. I became passionate about creating the kind of practice I wish had existed sooner—a place where people can make sense of themselves, feel genuinely understood, show up as they are, not as they have been told they should, and discover there may have been good reasons they adapted the way they did all along.

How I Work

My work as a therapist is informed by Somatic Experiencing™ (Advanced Year Trainee), EMDR, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), attachment theory, mindfulness, and other evidence-informed approaches. But those are tools—not the therapy itself.

The most supportive foundation is the relationship we build together. I believe growth and healing happens when people feel emotionally safe enough to be curious about themselves instead of judging themselves. It is very important to me that I create a therapeutic space based on respect, trust, collaboration, and genuine connection, where you don’t have to earn acceptance or hide parts of yourself.

I also don’t believe therapy has to be serious all the time. The work we do can be incredibly deep, but there is often room for laughter, relief, and moments of joy, too. When we’re struggling, it’s easy to lose sight of the qualities that make us who we are. I want therapy to be a place where we not only make space for pain, but also reconnect with your strengths, values, interests, relationships, and the parts of you that have always been there.

I’ve intentionally created a space where you can show up exactly as you are. If you need to move, fidget, curl up under a weighted blanket, take breaks, stim, cry, laugh, think out loud, or sit quietly for a while, that’s okay. Communication doesn’t have to look one particular way for therapy to be meaningful. This extends to my virtual spaces as well.

I work with teens, adults, couples, families, and co-parents. When working with younger children, I often spend as much time supporting parents as I do supporting the child. Rather than focusing on compliance or reward-and-punishment systems, I help families understand behavior through the lenses of development, attachment, and the nervous system. Together, we build connection, emotional regulation, trust, and relationships that feel safer and more sustainable.
